5 Signs Your Podcast Might Be Fading And How to Bring it Back Stronger.
As podcasters, we often use the term podfade when a podcast becomes inactive or fades away. It happens to a lot more shows than you expect. In fact, according to amplifimedia.com, it can happen to around 50% of podcasts out there. With many of them not even making it past the seventh episode.
But how do you know if your show is podfading? Here are five signs you might be going through it.
1. You're procrastinating.
More specifically you’re engaging in creative procrastination, you spend weeks coming up with great ideas but never executing on them.
2. You haven’t pressed record in more than 30 days.
Or on any new content for that matter.
3. You keep pushing back your launch date.
Maybe it’s because you haven’t finished recording, or because you haven’t decided what your new show cover will look like. Whatever the reason, you keep pushing your deadline.
4. You don’t have a sustainable plan.
That’s why you can’t produce content for your show consistently.
5. You’re starting to dread working on your show.
This is probably because you lost your zest. You don’t know exactly why you are doing this anymore, and it’s becoming a job you dread, rather than a joy you look forward to. This happens when you don’t have a sustainable process.
If you said “yes” to any of the statements above, you might be experiencing podfade.
So what can you do about it?
Get clear on your why. Create a clear VISION for your show and get back into the PRODUCTION MINDSET. Start with some light research on your current audience, and make sure your current direction matches your listenership’s needs.
Come up with a sustainable production process. You need a step-by-step framework that will break down your podcast production into digestible milestones. This is where you decide what days you will record, what days you will edit, and when you will publish. Are you keeping up with your production schedule? Did you just ask yourself: “What’s a production schedule?”
